Bodybuilding For A Woman
June 29, 2009 by Jessica Harmon
In the past, when you mentioned a bodybuilder it would often conjure up the picture of a man with big arms and a ripped six pack. As bodybuilding was generally noted as a mans sport when it first became popular. Obviously, now it is a worldwide phenomenon that is enjoyed by man and women alike. Bodybuilding for a woman is really not that much different from how men do it.
Not all women use bodybuilding as a way to build massive muscles and compete in competitions. They use it to tone up their bodies, get fit and lose weight. When this is combined with a healthy diet, it is a great combination for doing just that.
For the women who want to build big muscles to compete in bodybuilding competitions, their training and diet will differ greatly. They will be lifting heavier weights in the gym and training more often. They will be using a lower amount of reps when training too, as this helps to build up muscle mass. They will focus on specific muscle groups each time they train, so they can give them the best workout.
The diet will be different as it will be a high protein and relatively high carbohydrate balance. This is to give the body more energy for training hard and more protein for building muscle mass. Fats will be included too (around 10% of the diet). These are still important for the body to function and maintain a healthy balance.
Bodybuilding for a woman who just wants to tone her body will use a routine that uses lighter weights and has more reps. This tones the muscles without putting the extra pressure on them, so they won’t grow much larger, just reduce the fat around them and tone up.
It is all about what goals you want to achieve with your bodybuilding. You need to have these set out so you can devise the best bodybuilding workout to fit your needs. You’ll need to know how much weight to use and what diet is going to get you to your goals faster.
By sitting down before you even start training and writing down what you want to achieve, you are 90% more likely to achieve your goals as compared to if you just started working out without really knowing what you want.
Bear this in mind next time you step into your local gym!
